Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) is a key component of Ireland's Smart Economy, and Ireland has one of the highest concentrations of ICT activity and employment in the OECD. The ICT sector in Ireland incorporates the full range of high tech activities including Research and Development, high value manufacturing, Shared Services, Supply Chain Management, Software Development and Technical Support operating in areas from computers to chips, telecommunications to software and components to copiers.

The ICT sector in Ireland attracts global investment with seven of the world\ss top ten companies operating here. ICT already accounts for €50 billion in Irish exports which this is set to grow as more companies take advantage of our competitive opportunities and knowledge-based economy.
Ireland is committed to building on its established position as a leading centre of excellence in the Information and Communications Technology sector. In 2008, Enterprise Ireland undertook a comprehensive review of the software sector in Ireland. Their vision statement is that "By 2013, Ireland will be internationally recognised as having a "best connected" New Software Economy successfully delivering innovative solutions on a global scale." |
