Schools - Cork's education programme with Sister City Shanghai begins at primary and second level with 8 schools in each city having signed formal Memoranda of Understanding. Activities include:
Currently some 300 Chinese students are studying at University College Cork (UCC). UCC maintains close links with China with a UCC Beijing office, strategic alliances with Chinese Universities offering joint degree programmes and an Irish University (IUA), China Scholar Council (CSC) programme which has hosted 7 Chinese scholars in a range of departments at UCC. The establishment of the Confucius Institute at UCC, headed up by the Director of the Irish Institute of Chinese Studies, Prof. Fan Hong is a reflection of the strength of the relationship between Cork and Shanghai.
