The Shanghai Municipal People's Government and Cork City Council have over the past 5 years developed a number of co-operative projects.

The Shanghai Internships Programme co-ordinates an annual exchange of up to 16 Local Government officials visiting and working in their Sister City for up to 10 weeks. Local Government delegations visit their sister city each year to exchange learning experiences on all aspects of local government. Primary and second-level schools in Cork and Shanghai are partnered on student and teacher exchange programmes. This year, 2010, 4 Cork schools will travel to Shanghai and participate in a range of summer cultural exchange programmes between musicians, writers and artists.
