Sino-Irish trade volume has been growing rapidly since the 1980s due to a number of bi-lateral trade agreements between the two countries.

Enterprise Ireland established an office in Shanghai in early 1998. Its purpose is to assist Irish companies to achieve strong positions in global markets, and specifically to increase their export sales in trading with the People's Republic of China.
